This venue excels at:
1. Intimate wedding ceremonies in the 17th Century indoor/outdoor courtyard surrounded by twisting vines, stone arches and a flood of glistening sunlight from above. The maze-like, cobbled medieval streets of Mdina won’t fail to provide some of the most unique and romantic shots for your big day.
2. Balmy evening receptions in the de Mondion Restaurant terraces high on the ancient bastions of the old palazzo. Celebrate in luxury with top class catering as you soak in the breath-taking panoramic views that stretch across the entire island from Mdina’s vantage point in the clouds.
Xara Palace (pronounced ‘Shara’) is a Relais & Châteaux 5-Star luxury hotel that’s been converted from a beautiful 17th Century Maltese Palazzo. The original Norman grand stone defenses and subsequent baroque architecture have been kept in tact creating an atmosphere of boutique grandeur in the heart of the medieval walled city of Mdina. Wedding ceremonies are held in an internal courtyard within the Palace that serves as an ideal location for intimate unions. The stone arches and winding tree vines intertwine to create the feeling of outdoors, while a large glass roof spills light across the congregation from above without the concern of letting in bad weather.
The restaurants in Xara Palace are renowned for their haute cuisine and the team are able to supply fine wines and champagnes, exquisite canapés or multiple course seated meal wither in the restaurants or in the terrace. There is the choice of the de Mondian restaurant that sits high on the battlements of the old palazzo overlooking the island, or the Piazza which is located in a charming cobbled square in front of the hotel and surrounded by ancient buildings transporting you back in time. As a hotel, there are 17 luxurious rooms available for the night, including the stunning executive duplex suite with terrace and private jacuzzi, complete with 180 degree views and perfect for honeymooners.
The legal stuff:
You can have a legally binding civil ceremony in the Atrium (courtyard) at the Xara Palace. Exclusive use of the restaurant is also possible and the staff have a resident wedding manager to help arrange all the details. There is a magnificent church just round the corner so if you prefer a religious ceremony you could still hold your reception at The Xara Palace.

As The Xara Palace operates as a hotel, there is a possibility of other guests, not from your party, being present in the reception areas or restaurants if you have not booked the hotel exclusively. It is wise to talk to the team to ensure you have privacy for your ceremony as the Atrium is not far from the reception.
The de Mondian restaurant terraces are highly recommended for your reception. The stunning views and medieval surrounds really add a special feel to your celebration and far exceed the impact of the restaurant’s interior.
