Characteristics: One of Malta’s few and largest sandy beaches. As its namesake suggests, the sand is deep golden in colour and stretches out a long way into the sea providing shallow clear waters for relaxed swimming. The 5* Radisson Golden Sands leases part of the beach to provide a private area for guests. This area can also be hired at a fee for weddings at non-peak times providing a private area away from the crowds on the beach.
Popularity: Due to being one of the few large sandy beaches in Malta, Golden Bay is highly popular with locals and tourists alike. The shallow waters and abundance of water sports available mean it is also popular with families and children. As it lies on Malta’s west coast, Golden Bay is a great spot to watch the sun set and as such it has become very popular for evening beach barbecues; attracting a diverse crowd from Maltese youths to families with small children. The atmosphere is generally one of fun and relaxation.
Facilities: Another reason for its popularity, Golden Bay has a number of established restaurants and bars catering for beach-goers. The Radisson Golden Sands hotel has a high quality bar and restaurant while two other well established cafes are spaced out along the beach. There are bathroom facilities in all of the bars as well as a toilet block in the main car park.
Accessibility: Golden Bay is one of the most easily accessed beaches in Malta. It is possible to park right beside the beach but finding a space can be tricky at peak times. There is roadside parking and an overflow car park further up the road and buses also make regular trips to the beach from all over the island.
Wedding Notes: Golden Bay is one of the obvious choices for a beach wedding in Malta. Good accessibility and facilities mean your suppliers will be able to set up your decor easily and your guests will be well catered for regards the fundamentals of toilets, lighting, accommodation and so on. The hotel can provide catering but there are also independent companies who have hosted many events on Golden Bay in the past. You can either request a permit for an area of the main beach or negotiate with the Radisson hotel to use their private area for a fee if you don’t want to risk interruptions or intrusive noise from the general public. It is also possible to get legally married at the Radisson should you wish to do everything in one place. In short it’s a good option for your wedding but there isn’t much around the area so consideration would be required regarding transport and so on if you were going to stay there for longer.
