A Day ‘Baia’ the Sea

Big Up for Baia Beach Club

Baia Beach Club is nestled in Little Armier, Mellieha, up in the North East corner of Malta and bills itself as a full service beach club offering luxury sunbeds, bar and restaurant and a premium service. Indeed, they won the 2013 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in testament to all their fine efforts.

Oriental Baia

Baia is inspired by European and Asian influences and as such, brings a Thai-island-style feeling to this beautiful part of Malta which offers seas as blue and clear as any of those found in the orient. The sunbeds are stylish, padded, white ‘mandalays’ with double beds and round cocoon styled loungers on offer for communal sun-bathing. Massage and spa treatments plus power yoga and yoga aboard paddle-boards is also available upon request. Drinks can be ordered from the sun-beds or from the bar and a top quality, ‘beach-chic’ restaurant is available on the upper terrace. Baia combines the best of both worlds; the lower terraces constitute concrete decking jutting out into the sea yet offers steps down to the white sand beach that runs adjacent to the club. The ambiance is one of decadence and serenity, and offers an escape from the hectic, free-for-all of Armier Bay beach that gets really busy over the summer months.

The Baia Appeal

Unlike some swanky beach clubs, Baia is really welcoming to families with children. The round mandalay beds are a good option for a family with two children and there is plenty of shade to protect delicate skin. The restaurant supplies high chairs and even baby food upon request. This doesn’t however, affect the appeal to the younger party generation with plenty of space for peaceful bathing and sunset events that attract a ‘young, beautiful crowd’.

Weddings at Baia

Baia makes the perfect venue for weddings by the sea. The restaurant and terrace bar exude beach elegance and provide the perfect canvas for creating your own wedding set-ups. There are no real neighbours so music and dancing into the night is not the same problem as it may be in some of the five star hotels. The stunning scenery across to Comino and Gozo makes the perfect back-drop to a stylishly conceived day.

Booking a bed at Baia

Due to the exclusivity of the Baia Beach Club, it is necessary to book in advance. As you can imagine, costs of beds is a little higher than on the main beaches but you’re paying for space, luxury and service. At present, prices range from €4 to €6 (weekday/weekend) for single sun loungers €4/ €6, €6 for umbrellas and €3 for chairs on the beach which are also available. Double Mandalays with cushions and an umbrella are €30, while round Mandalays are €40 with a maximum of three adults or two adults and two children allowed on them at one time.
